Does the job,
This review is from: WD Blue 320 GB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, PATA, 8 MB Cache - WD3200AAJB (Personal Computers)This drive is exactly as advertised. It is a bare drive, no cables or mounting gear included (although you probably don't need either). It does not include instructions either; so you should know what you are doing if you are buying this hardware. It is an excellent choice for an older computer.

This review is from: WD Blue 160 GB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, PATA, 8 MB Cache - WD1600AAJB (Personal Computers)I should have know what would happen as soon as I saw this drive arrived in a box that was not what I'm used to when purchasing new Western Digital drives. Both the outside box and inner static-proof bag were U-Line brand, which sent up a red flag that these might be used drives. And I was right.
They are advertised as new but they are refurbished. I work in IT and I check every piece of technology that I purchase thoroughly, including (and especially) hard drives. Apparently the seller doesn't know that hard drives equipped with S.M.A.R.T. technology record information about the hard drives, including usage time, errors, etc. This drive had a power-on count of 23 and power-on hours over 5000.
Do not sell refurbished drives marked as new.

PATA vs SATA,
This review is from: WD Blue 320 GB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, PATA, 8 MB Cache - WD3200AAJB (Personal Computers)Everything about the item was excellent. Well packaged, quickly shipped, performs well upon installation. My only problem was upon ordering, the product description said the drive was available in both PATA and SATA configurations(parallel vs. serial). My older computer required the PATA as a replacement hard drive. The Amazon ordering process did not facilitate the specifying of one of the two available configurations. It took various phone calls to Amazon, and emails to the product supplier to assure me the PATA version would be shipped. It turned out well, but this was the first time I encountered ambiguity, frustration, and delay in placing an order with Amazon.com
