3.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Bluetooth keyboard case that has some issues that lowers its rating!, December 2, 2013

This is an excellent Bluetooth keyboard that has a lot of features built in. Unfortunately it also has a problem that I did not care for. It has a rechargeable lithium battery that you can charge with your computer's USB port or with any USB AC wall charger that you own. This is a nicely designed and protective case for your iPad Air. It provides good protection for your iPad Air and it is very attractive with a diamond pattern in the surface that provides a good gripping surface so you can securely hold the iPad without dropping it. I show the detail of the case texture in my video. There is a magnetic flap that holds the lid of the case closed and I like that as I have seen several cases that did not offer a latch and the latch will add protection for your iPad's screen in case you accidentally drop it.

All of the ports and controls are easily accessed when the tablet is installed into the case. The case's inner polycarbonate iPad holder is painted with a sort of rubberized texture paint that does not show fingerprints. The interior of the case is covered in a soft microfiber lining that is textured and sort of a rubbery feeling that helps the case also act as a stand to hold your iPad upright in a viewing mode to read, type or watch movies. There are no magnets in the Keyboard cover to put the iPad to sleep or to wake it up and this is a shortcoming.

Please see my video for more details. Before you use the keyboard for the first time you should charge it and it may take up to 2 to 3 hours to charge for the first time. You can charge the keyboard with your computer's USB port or with any 5 VDC USB AC wall charger you own. The LED charge light will turn red while the keyboard is charging and it will go out when the keyboard is fully charged. If you are using the keyboard and the red LED is flashing then it is time to recharge the keyboard.

The battery is a rechargeable lithium battery rated at 280 mAh that will last for 3 years. It has an uninterrupted working time of 100 hours. It has a stand by time of 100 days. The battery used in this device does not take a memory set from over charging so you can feel free to charge the keyboard for as long as you wish and as often as you wish. Don't forget there is a power switch that you can turn off to conserve the battery life. After the initial charging it should take about 2 hours to recharge the internal battery.

The keyboard features a wireless Bluetooth connection to your iPad and the pairing process is fast and easy. I show how to pair it in my video. I go over the keyboard in detail in the video. The working range of the Bluetooth is about 33 feet.

I was very disappointed that the magnets that hold the keyboard into place on the case are too weak. During my testing the keyboard fell off of and out of and onto the iPad in the case multiple times with the slightest of motion. I have tested many Bluetooth keyboard cases that have the keyboards held into place with magnets and this has never happened. The keyboard is a beautiful design but the top and bottom of the keyboard are made of aluminum and I believe that it is just too heavy for the magnets that were used. I even had the keyboard stay laying on the iPad when I opened the case. When I opened the top flap the keyboard just fell off repeatedly and onto the iPad. Please see my video. The keyboard is very high quality but the magnetic mounting is very poorly implemented.

What's in the box?
* The keyboard that weighs in at 1 pound and 7/8 ounces
* There is a charging cable that is 32 inches long.
* A brief instruction manual.

The keyboard is very nice and the letter keys and the shift keys are larger than they were on older styles of Bluetooth keyboards. They have made the top row of specialty keys smaller as well as the arrow keys to allow more space for the keys that you use the most. Remember that the auto capitalization, double space for a period and the auto spell functions do not work on the tablet when you are using the keyboard as opposed to typing on the iPad's virtual keyboard. The top row of specialty keys are home, dim screen, brighten screen, change keyboard style, copy, paste, change the input method, skip back, play/pause, skip forward, mute, decrease volume, increase volume and lock the iPad. If you stop typing for 15 minutes the keyboard will go to sleep to save battery life and you only have to touch any key to turn it back on. Wait a second or two before you begin speed typing. I particularly like the Caps Lock LED and that all of the LEDs are visible with the iPad tilted into place. I have seen some cases like this that did not have a Caps Lock LED and the other LEDs were hidden behind the tablet and you could not even see them.

The web page is confusing as it states that the product has a lifetime warranty and also a warranty of 18 months. This... Read more

This review is from: Anker TC950 Ultra-Slim Folio Bluetooth Keyboard Case for iPad Air - Smart Case and Magnetically Detachable Keyboard (Tuxedo-black) (Electronics)
Anker comes through again with a new Ultra-Slim case and Bluetooth Keyboard for the iPad Air. They were nice enough to supply me with a sample for test and evaluation, but no worries, I promise that my review is fair and honest (this is not my first product review rodeo!).

I've given it a thorough going-over and found much to like. First, this is the lightest Bluetooth keyboard I've ever seen. The keyboard weighs just a few ounces; it's so light in fact that it seems almost like a toy. Yet the advertised battery life is 100 hours working and 100 days standby. While I didn't try to test either figure (I do have a life, you know), other Anker keyboards I've tested live up to the advertised specs.

Secondly, the keyboard attaches to the magnetized cover. Position it to allow the iPad space to adjust to the desired viewing angle, or remove it entirely. Use in on your iPad or your cell phone; I tested it successfully on my Galaxy S3, Kindle Fire HDX, and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, all list it as the "Anker Keyboard case for iPad 5" and operates perfectly.

Next, the iPad itself fits snugly into a polycarbonate case attached to the Folio. I really love this feature; I've highlighted it in reviews of other Anker iPad cases. The case holds the iPad securely - a must considering the cost of the iPad; hold the case at any angle and the iPad remains in place.

The Bluetooth connection is easy to set up and remains connected even when the iPad goes to sleep, just hit any key to get things started again. A simple on/off switch and Connect button are present and the keyboard recharges via a micro-USB cable (provided).

Now, I'm not a talented typist, but I found the keyboard a little small; a necessary compromise given the size of the iPad Air. You are not going to type War and Peace, at least not without getting used to the small keyboard size. There are, however, a full set of function keys including sound, brightness, and media controls; throw in a lock function, a home key and a few others. The keys have good travel and are responsive to the touch. In fact, I typed the whole review using the keyboard and the Pages application on my iPad Air.

A note of caution; with the keyboard in place the iPad does not turn off when you close the case - the keyboard blocks the magnetized case which turns the iPad off. Remove the keyboard and close the cover and the iPad powers down. A magnetized flap closes to secure the cover and folds back when open to stay out of the way.

All this at a great price! Grab one of these and make your iPad more functional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this keyboard case for my iPad Air!!!, February 21, 2014

This review is from: Anker TC950 Ultra-Slim Folio Bluetooth Keyboard Case for iPad Air - Smart Case and Magnetically Detachable Keyboard (Tuxedo-black) (Electronics)
I recently bought a Belkin keyboard case for my iPad Air for $100. at Best Buy. So glad I ended up returning it due to the space bar getting stuck. So, I turned to Amazon and ordered this Anker case for $30. and crossed my fingers. I absolutely love it !!!! The keyboard will never fall out yet you can easily remove as it's magnetized. The iPad can stand at all angles and doesn't fall back. It stays closed and very light weight even with the keyboard attached. I highly recommend it especially at this great price, no need to get the overpriced ones!!
